Birgul Ayman Guler, deputy chairperson of the Republican People's Party (CHP), who was speaking in the southern Turkish city of Hatay on Wednesday, said she recently visited Syria as part of a delegation, Press TV in Ankara reported.
Guler noted that six of the 38-member Turkish delegation to Syria were CHP lawmakers.
She added that the Syrian Women's Union had invited the delegation to visit their country.
The Turkish delegation visited Syrian cities of Aleppo, Damascus and Latakia.
The lawmaker said most news stories broadcast on (Turkish) television are from Western sources and they are false, since they reflect an entirely different picture from what the delegation witnessed during their four-day visit to Syria.
She insisted that the Turkish team had witnessed no “horror and civil war” in Syria.
“There are some clashes in certain parts of Syria, but they could be considered the result of activity of terror groups,” Guler added.
The lawmaker said the Syrian nation is concerned about a Western scenario that aims to interfere in the country's internal affairs and to eventually occupy it, as they did with other countries in the Middle East and North Africa. She then vowed that her party will oppose any such scenarios by the West.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March with demonstrations being held both against and in support of President Bashar al-Assad.
The Syrian government blames outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups for the killing of hundreds of people, including members of the security forces, saying that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.
